Help Your Child Move Freely and Confidently After Surgery!

A scar may look healed on the surface, but the skin, muscles, and layers underneath may still feel tight, sensitive, or restricted.
At Bloom, we provide gentle, individualized scar management for children from newborn through age 18. Through hands-on treatment, movement, and play, we help improve how the scar and surrounding tissues move so your child can return to everyday activities with greater comfort and confidence.
Whether your child recently had surgery or has been living with an older scar for years, we are here to help them BLOOM.

Could Your Child's Scar Be Affecting Their Movement?

Every scar heals differently. Some scars remain soft and mobile, while others may become tight, raised, sensitive, or difficult to move over.

Which of the following sounds familiar?

  • Your child avoids touching on or around their scar.
  • The scar feels tight, firm, raised, or stuck.
  • Your child has pain, pulling, itching, or sensitivity near the scar.
  • Your child has difficulty stretching, standing tall, reaching, crawling, walking, or returning to play.
  • Their movement has changed since surgery.
  • Clothing or touch over the scar is uncomfortable.
  • You want guidance on safely caring for your child’s scar at home.

You do not have to wait until the scar becomes a bigger concern. We can assess how it is healing and give you practical tools to support your child.

"I cannot share enough wonderful things about Bloom. We had our baby boy in therapy for 7 months with no progress. After just a few sessions, we saw amazing progress!"

Scar Care Is About More Than Appearance!

Scars are a natural part of healing, but healing does not stop when the incision closes.

Scar tissue can affect the skin and the layers of tissue beneath it. When those layers do not glide and move freely, your child may experience tightness, sensitivity, discomfort, or restrictions during everyday movement.

Our primary goal is functional improvement. Depending on your child’s needs, scar management may help:

  • Improve the mobility and flexibility of the scar and surrounding tissues
  • Decrease tightness, pulling, pain, or sensitivity
  • Improve comfort with touch, clothing, and daily care
  • Restore efficient movement after surgery
  • Support a more comfortable return to play, school, sports, and everyday activities
  • Improve the overall texture and appearance of the scar as it continues to heal
  • Give your family a clear and manageable home-care plan

What Does Scar Management Look Like?

Your child’s treatment will be personalized based on the age of the scar, its location, your child’s comfort level, and the activities that matter most to your family.

Treatment may include:

Gentle Scar Mobilization

Your physical therapist may use hands-on techniques to help the scar and surrounding layers move more freely. We always begin gently and follow your child’s comfort and tolerance.

Vibration and Sensory Input

Gentle vibration and other forms of sensory input may be used to help your child become more comfortable with touch and different sensations around the scar.

Therapeutic Taping

Kinesiology tape may be used when appropriate to support mobility, provide sensory input, or encourage movement around the scar.

Silicone Recommendations

When appropriate, we may recommend silicone gel or sheets and teach you how to use them safely. Any product recommendations will be based on your child’s individual scar and stage of healing.

Exercises and Play

Scar treatment does not have to feel clinical or intimidating. We incorporate stretching, strengthening, movement, and play to help your child use their body confidently.

A Home Plan You Can Actually Use

We will show you what to do at home, how often to do it, and what signs to watch for. You will leave feeling confident—not overwhelmed
